Ways to learn to play the guitar

An article from Used Guitars and Amplifiers
Of all the instruments in the world one can learn to play, probably the most popular is the guitar. However, whether it is the acoustic, or the electric guitar it can also be one of the most difficult to learn, and therefore requires a lot of dedication and commitment to master. For this reason, many people give up before they actually achieve their goal as they follow the wrong routes. There are some key ways in which to start out that can help you overcome these early difficulties. The useful thing is that the majority of these pointers can be applied to the beginner level of both acoustic and electric guitar.

The most important part of your body that will help you become an excellent player of this instrument is your ears, and thus it is paramount that you train them properly in order to master the art. It is often a part of the training that many people overlook, as it can be a rather arduous and time consuming task. It is however a vital part of your training. There are a number of different ways that this can be done. The most popular method and the one that has been proven to be the most successful is the ear training software systems that are readily available online. There are a vast number of these available, the majority of them are designed to make the learning fun, this is important to the learning process.

It is somewhat of a cliché but practice really does make perfect. You must practice daily, and this means both with your fingers, and with your ears. As a beginner the ideal starting point is pentatonic scales, these are amongst the simplest of scales to learn as they only have 5 tones. The minimum amount of time you should allot to practice is between 20 and 30 minutes per day, but obviously, the more time you can spare to practice the better. It is a fact that constant practice for a short time each day is far more effective than 3 hours practice just one day a week. This type of practicing helps to keep everything you are learning fresh in your mind.

When it actually comes to learning there are a few different methods you can opt for, and each has their benefits. Many beginners prefer to choose to employ an actual guitar teacher. This has the advantage of having an actual person to ask questions, and give you advice while you are learning. The only problem with this method is that they can be quite costly, and you obviously have to fit around their schedule. For this reason, a lot of people tend to purchase the self-teaching packages that are available online. These allow you to learn at your own pace, and at anytime that suits you. They also involve only one payment thus saving you a lot of money.
